Gambling
and entertainment built Las Vegas to be the number 1
party city in the world today. In 1941 the only resort on the Las Vegas Strip was El Rancho Vegas. In their intimate showroom comedians, dancers, singers, strippers and a multitiude of performers entertained hotel guests. El Rancho Vegas was the first, but many of the successful star format hotel/casinos copied that formula for many years after. The first hotel to break with the star policy by debuting a stage spectacular as its main entertainment feature was the Stardust. The Lido de Paris from France performed and some critics acclaimed the show as being more spectacular than the original Paris production.
